Graduation eh?
I “officially” graduated last night, in other words, the ceremony. It was actually pretty nice. Our ceremonies are always pretty intimate, we’re able to do that because it’s a fairly small school group. Graduation night is usually some music, awards given out to the rest of the school group, and then the graduates get personally congratulated, their awards or accomplishments are mentioned, yadda, yadda, yadda, and then their parents get to talk for a bit. Like I said, pretty intimate, and very personal. There were probably only a hundred and fifty people there last night.
So, the music was really cool, there’s these two families in our group that are TOTAL overachievers, and they played the music. Their kids are amazing, they have a six year old who can play like, five instruments, and write her own music. And their fifteen year old girl and thirteen year old boy… wow… they’re just crazy. They’re so talented.
Wow, I get distracted easily, heh, sorry. So yeah, I was the last graduate. I knew Mom was going to cry when she had to give the speech, I was just hoping that I wouldn’t cry when SHE started to cry… heh… it was so sweet though. Her and Dad both said so many nice things, and they didn’t drone on and on like the other parents. It was just sweet.
There was a little reception afterwards, and after I hugged and took pictures with all the people I needed to, Cody, Cassidy, and Laura helped me ditch the place for a while. We walked to Cassidy’s house, bare footed and in the middle of the street of course. That was really nice, and although I have a serious blister now because I was an idiot and walked so far without shoes, it was fun. We dipped our feet in her pool, said hi to her dog King Tut, jumped on her trampoline (in dresses no less!), and yadda yadda yadda yadda.
It was just one of those nights, that’s like, the essence of summer. The sky is dark, but it’s still bright, and there are lightning bugs, and you don’t mind if you’re in the dinky little Iowa town of Shellsburg walking through the empty streets barefooted.
*sigh* It was really cute, Dad bought me a bouquet of flowers on his way home from work, and apparently at the florists he picked them out himself. I mean, he actually chose all the flowers himself, and had the bouquet made. I’ll have to take a picture of it later.
Oh, and here’s a couple of pictures of Soph and I before we left last night. She’s a little blonde in a pink dress, and I’m totally frumping it out with my brunette self in a ribbon skirt from India. Good times.
